Based at, Ecclesfield Police Station this area is led by Inspector Simon Leake and consists of Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers, Special Constables, a Children and Young Persons Officer, a Safer Neighbourhoods Officer and a Crime Reduction Officer.

This area consists of Three Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT), Shiregreen/Wincobank, Firth Park/Fir Vale and Burngreave. We are dedicated teams who are visible, accessible and familiar to your communities.

The SNTs are ready to tackle issues that affect people's day-to-day lives, like criminal damage and nuisance behaviour. Besides simply responding to incidents, the teams work with the communities they serve to pinpoint problems and try to find long-term solutions. We aim to reduce local crime, bring more offenders to justice, and address quality of life issues through a problem-solving approach with communities.

"Since taking over management of policing the Communities within this Safer Neighbourhood Area in October 2008, I have seen and implemented many changes. Changes, which I believe, are having a positive impact on our communities.

In January 2009 we implemented our Partners And Communities Together programme across the area and this process has delivered some fantastic results. The PACT process is the process where you can have your say and have some control over where and how we police your communities. I have expanded on this to ensure that not only do we have PACT meetings, but we also have ‘Drop Ins’ at various locations across the area, to allow you to have more access to us. A  place where we can discuss your local Crime and Anti Social Behaviour problems and we can let you know, what we are doing about it.

You will be seeing more of us. Whether that is on the streets, in your schools or in your shopping centres. I want us to be more accessible to you.

So what are we doing in the next few months? Well I have already linked up with our partners in Sanctuary Housing and Activity Sheffield to enable us to support activities in Shiregreen during the summer holiday period.

In June we are enhancing our presence in the Ellesmere Green Area to support the communities and traders on Spital Hill through the World Cup. We will be there during the events of 12th, 13th 18th and 23rd June. Our colleagues from Activity Sheffield, Sheffield Homes and the Fire Service will be there too.

The Abbeyfield Festival takes place on the 11th July, which is the same day as the World Cup Final. We will be at the Abbeyfield Festival, engaging with you and providing support to the event organisers, ensuring that your safety is our number one priority.

The last thing that I want to tell you about is our Operation NEIGHBOUR. There are approximately 22,000 households in our Safer Neighbourhood Area and over the next few months my officers will be knocking on doors and talking to you about the things that concern you most around  Crime and ASB, and how the Police serve you. I want to be reassured that everyone in our area knows how to contact your local police team, I want to know what your priorities are and I want you to be more involved in how we Police your community. I will use the feedback from these visits to help me decide how best to deploy officers and where our most vulnerable areas are. We have reduced Anti Social Behaviour by 17% so far this year and crime is down yet again. I want to continue those reductions and I want you to be reassured that you live in one of the safest cities in the country."  Inspector Simon Leake
