what issues concerned you most in your area
During the PACT meeting held on Thursday 26th August 2010, members of the community raised concerns over the increase in aquisitive crime during recent weeks. The main areas for concern had been commercial burglary on the High Street, and offences of domestic burglary which had affected to estates near to Hough Lane, Gypsy Lane, Lundhill Road and Blythe Street
Many commercial premises had been targetted for cash. Domestic properties had been targetted and items such as cycles, fishing tackle and electrical equipment stolen.
The majority of the offences had been committed during the hours of darkness
Officers from the SNT have used current inteligence to direct patrols to the most affected areas during key times. This has assisted in disrupting and preventing criminal activity.
During a fornightly operation several local criminals were arrested for attacks on commercial premises within the area of Wombwell High Street. Further operations are planned within the High Street area.
Officers from the SNT have used footage from the three CCTV cameras position within the High Street area to assist with the investigation of crimes.
The SNT have visited all comercial premises on the High Street and discussed crime prevention and the need to avoid leaving cash on premises over night. The current spate of crimes committed on commercial premises was high lighted within the local media and the public response has lead to several arrests.
As part of the on going operation 'Broadsword' SNT officers having been systemitcally check second dealers and scrap yard premises for stolen property, advising owners to be vigilant for criminals looking to dispose of stolen property. Officers have been ustilising new equipment that can scan and idenify stolen property.
