What issues concerned you most in your area?
Drug taking and dealing on Abbeydale Road, Herschell Road, Stavely Road and Fieldhead Road.
This priority was first agreed at the Partners & Communities Together (PACT) meeting of 24th of June 2009 and still remains a priority following the most recent P.A.C.T meeting of 25th of November, 2009.
Late Afternoon and Evening Time
>Between 14/12/09 and 17/12/09 officers from the SNA dealt with 3 cannabis factories which were identified in the Sharrow area. Plants totalling in excess of £30,000 were seized and destroyed.
> On Wednesday the 25/11/2009 Officers from the Sharrow Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) along with colleagues from CID executed a drugs warrant in the Sharrow area. A large amount of cannabis and money was recovered. One male was arrested for possesion of a controlled drug with intent to supply and assault.
> On Saturday the 21/11/2009 Officers from Sharrow Safer Neighbourhood Team, along with colleagues from the Youth Offending Service and Youth Provision took part in a city wide operation engaging with young people, finding out their thoughts on Policing and youth provision in the areas where they live. Officers also engaged with vulnerable young people, those at risk of becoming involved in criminality or any other activities putting them at risk. Over 19 young people were spoken with in the Sharrow area.
>There continues to be a reduction in the number of complaints from local residents, especially in the area of Fieldhead Rd.
>From 16th -22nd November a Police operation was carried out by officers from Sharrow SNA specifically targeted at Anti-Social Behaviour. Officers from the SNT conducted patrols up until Midnight each night in order to both provide reassurance to residents and also to deal appropriately with those found to be causing Anti-Social Behaviour. These patrols included uniformed officers on foot, officers on mountain bikes and also plain clothed officers . Officers have also used their Police powers to search where appropriate, individuals and or vehicles. Officers engaged in the operation have ensured they fully explained why there was an increased police presence to residents in order to provide reassurance and have been sensitive to the needs of the local community at all times. During this Police operation 20 individuals have been stopped and their details checked by officers.
>A meeting was held with the newly appointed Mount Pleasant Park Ranger to discuss issues in relation to the park.
>Partners from Streetforce, the Drug and Alcohol Action Team all continue to provide dedicated staff to assist in resolving the priority.
> Partnership working with the youth offending team is ongoing. Members of the youth offending team have also accompanied PCSO's on patrol in the area.
>Whilst this has been a P.A.C.T priority Sharrow Safer Neighbourhood Team, and other policing partners have specifically targeted the Abbeydale Road area addressing the problem of drugs and anti social behaviour. The Operation has been sucessful with a number of persons being arrested for drug related criminality in addition to positive action in relation to anti-social behaviour and vehicle crime.
>Following the efforts of officers from the Sharrow Safer Neighbourhood team a prolific drug dealer from the Landsdowne area is now back behind bars. The offender was recalled due to breach of his release licence conditions and will be remanded until March.
>Approximately 190 hours of patrol time (as at 04/01/10) has been spent on this priority since it was first set as a priority at the PACT meeting on 24th of June, 2009.
>Members of the Local Community are encouraged to report any incidents of Anti-Social Behaviour or issues involving drugs to the Police.
