- What issues concerned you most in your area?
Ongoing problems with litter in the Penistone market area.
Officers from The safer neighbourhood team have made regular patrols to the area. It has been relatively quiet over the past weeks with no one at the skate park in the evenings. We have increased patrols in all area's at the times requested and will continue to do so.
There is still a problem with some thoughtless youths ruining it for everyone else by smashing bottles on the skating area, which makes it dangerous for everyone else. Every penny spent by the local authority on cleaning up the glass two or three times a week is a penny that cannot be spent on the provision of more youth services or activities in YOUR area.
It should also be noted that at the last Ward Panel meeting held at Penistone Town Hall the view of the meeting was that if people can't respect the play areas that have been provided with then those facilities will be removed.
A large quantity of alcohol was seized from youths on the TPT near the Cemetery. BMBC community safety officers issued a litter ticket to a male who had discarded an empty can of lager. In the car park to the rear of the Spar a female was caught in possesion of cannabis and received a reprimand. A male caught on CCTV buying alcohol from Tesco and then suppying it to a 17yr old male was given an £80.00 fixed penalty ticket.
Officers from Hoyland and Penistone SNT's attended at Tesco's car park. A group of youth's were spoken to and 28 bottles of alcohol seized from the group. Information was received that a vehicle believed to be dealing drugs was also stopped and occupants and vehicle were searched, but nothing was found. One male was given a £80.00 fixed penalty notice for disorderly conduct for shouting abuse at Tesco staff after being refused the sale of alcohol.
A team of local youth workers have been engaging with Penistone young people around Tesco's and in the skate park. Youth workers have engaged with a number of youths discussing what issues they had and what they would like put in place for them to do. Hot chocolate was available during both visits and the chance to play sports with the youth workers. Future events are planned for Thursday evenings.
Continuing foot patrols are undertaken in the relevant areas to move on Youths who are causing a nuisance and to engage with those who are there legitimately and enjoying the facilities.
16/2/2012-
Penistone SNT have given the PACT areas extra attention through the February half term week. We have spoken to a number of youths at Penistone skate park who were using the equipment provided, we have also advised them regarding the litter problem, which seems to be improving in the area. We will continue to give the areas attention over the remaining days of half term and in the future.
