During this month we had 2 joint operations targeting friday nights. Where we worked with partner agencies in social services, youth services and other youth engagement. These are designed to engage with the youth on the streets in known "hotspot" areas. These are a positive and provide information to both the partners and youths concerned. During these times the engagement was positive and enjoyed by the youths themselves. Often being signposted to other opportunities that they were not aware of.

The Community Payback scheme may be of relevance to reducing the impact of criminal damage on the Community, so if there are areas that need cleaning up due to persistent damage (obvious public reparations) please feed suggestions in to the SNT. (community.payback@southyorkshire.probation.gsi.gov.uk) Suggestions so far have been - a number of pinfolds within Bentley, particularly Finkle Street and a project to clear up part of the Community Woodlands in Bentley.

February 2011

During February additional patrols have been put in place to address criminal damage and public disorder linked to alcohol consumption.  This saw a number of arrests for drunk and disorderly and damage; including 2 youths who removed the plough sign from the Plough Public House in Arksey and caused disruption to the highway in the locality and a further individual who caused damage to a number of cars within Bentley – all whilst under the influence of intoxicants.

A number of test purchases have taken place at both on and off license premises over the past week.  All the public houses passed and only one off licence failed.  A knife test purchase has also been conducted and all premises passed, which is a great improvement on last years test purchase which saw a large number fail.  During the alcohol test purchases an individual was also dealt with for possession of cannabis by way of a ‘warning’.

Work is currently taking place with regard to a St Leger tenant causing problems for local residents at Pickering Road.  The alleged perpetrator was arrested for an offence of criminal damage by SYP to assist partnership efforts to deter further disruptive behaviour and SNT staff will be conducting house to house enquiries to address any community concerns.

January 2011

In order to reduce/deter and educate children with regard to bullying (and cyber bullying) officers have also worked with Bentley High Street primary school to deliver assemblies and after school input with parents.  These sessions have also been used to promote safe and more responsible use of the internet by all concerned.

From 1st December to 17th January 2011 there were 14 incidents of criminal damage reported within Bentley, 4 in Toll Bar, 4 in Scawthorpe and 1 in Arksey.  There may be additional data relating to damage but it is possible this may be recorded under different criminal recording categories.

The Community Payback scheme may be of relevance to reducing the impact of criminal damage on the Community, so if there are areas that need cleaning up due to persistent damage (obvious public reparations) please feed suggestions in to myself or Jayne or through local councillors. Local residents who attended the latest PACT and "Have Your Say" events voiced their concerns to the SNT officers present one of them being Ant-Social Behaviour which as you can see is being delt with robustly

April 09 2010 - A joint visit to the Kirkby Avenue Primary School and nearby footpath identified a congregation spot for youth drinking and anti social behaviour.  A large quantity of litter has been removed from this area and the 'hot spot' incorporated into SNT patrols.

On the same date officers conducted an operation to disperse youths from the Bentley area and issue formal warnings prohibiting their return to the locality within a 48 hour period.  Although no such warnings were appropriate on this occassion the operation will be repeated each month in order to drive our performance within this PACT priority area.
