We asked:

At the Community meeting on 1st September 2010, we asked: 'what issues concern you most in your area?'

The Community meeting for your area is held on the first Wednesday of the month from 6:30pm at Guildford Grange, Guildford View (off Park Grange Road).  This is your chance to meet members of your Safer Neighbourhood Team and discuss issues that concern you, the area in which you live, and be a part of the tasking process for both the Police and our partners.

Alcohol related problems on Daresbury View area of the Arbourthorne incorporating Berners Road. At the Community meeting on 1st September 2010 it was decided that the issues were now more localised to the gennel which links Berners Road and Daresbury View.

This matter has been of some concern for some time now and has been raised at a number of Community meetings. The priority will therefore continue as does the high volume of work by SNA staff.  We continue to work with our partners to make the Daresbury area and Berners Road a better place to live and spend time.

Date of priority:
9 Apr 2009
Approximate times of offence:

Evenings, particularly Fridays and Saturdays.

We did:

A 'MoCam' (Mobile Camera mounted on a street lamp) has been utilised in the area.  This is currently covering the junction of Berners Road and East Bank Road.  This area has been reported at various times as being a hotspot for youths gathering and engaging in anti-social behaviour.  The footage from this camera has been utilised 6 times in active criminal investigations.  The camera also acts as a deterrent to those involved in anti-social behaviour and criminal activity.

The old derelict steps used as a gathering point by local youths on Daresbury View have been removed and grassed over. These were previously a focal point for alcohol related anti-social behaviour.

Fencing has been placed between the local housing office and Daresbury View flats preventing access to Buck Woods for local youths.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team is currently working closely with Sheffield Homes, South Yorkshire Housing Association, Street Force and local residents in the area.  Together they are taking measures to reduce anti-social behaviour and criminality in the area. This working group meet regularly to discuss any ongoing issues.

Police Community Support Officers are supporting the Console Kids Club run by the local TARA.  The youth centre provides positive activities for local youths and in doing so, acts as an alternative to committing anti-social behaviour or becoming involved in criminality.  Officers not only attend the club themselves, but direct young people they meet whilst out in the area to the centre.

The South Yorkshire Police helicopter has been utilised in the area.  The images the Officers from the helicopter were able to capture allowed Safer Neighbourhood Officers to identify individuals involved in the use of off road motor cycles in the Buck Wood area.   The helicopter Officers are also able to track where any offending vehicles are abandoned, hidden or housed, so that they can be seized.

Both PCSO’s and PC’s have directed their patrols in to the area.  They have looked at being in the area during the times anti-social behaviour has previously been reported.  These patrols have been in cars, on foot and on cycles.

Operation KB-Inspire which targets nuisance youths and alcohol related anti-social behaviour at key times is ongoing.

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team are currently gathering information through observations and reports from local residents.  This will be used to take action against those involved in criminality.

Feedback from residents within the area has improved due to the actions taken by the Safer Neighbourhood Team.
