Wombwell and Darfield SNT have received funding from Barnsley Councils Community Support Fund for a Hand Held Speed Detection Device. This was following complaints raised by members of the public, who were worried about the dangers of speeding vehicles on roads near to where they live.

Concerns were brought to the attention of the SNT and local Elected Members at the PACT meeting and Ward Members Surgeries. The SNT and Elected Members agreed to help, so with support from the South East Area Partnership Team they were able to get the funding to buy the speed detection device.

The device will be used in hot spot areas in Wombwell and Darfield, which will be agreed at the local Crime and Safety Group or PACT meeting.

PC Paul Bower said “As part of PACT we look at the things that matter most to the community, and speeding has been raised at a number of meetings. For us it’s not all about issuing tickets, it’s about educating motorist. In the last few weeks we have issued a number of advisory notices and referred 5 motorists to a speed awareness course.
