Officers from the City Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team carried out an operation to target anti-social behaviour last week. The operation was planned following complaints from members of the public surrounding alcohol-related anti-social behaviour around West Street and Eldon Street.
Officers worked from 4pm in the afternoon until the early hours of the morning with the emphasis on advising and engaging with individuals at risk of committing anti-social behaviour, using the power of arrest as a last resort. Officers dealt with individuals for a variety of reasons including anti-social behaviour on the streets and in licenced premises, assaults and begging.
In total 18 people had alcohol confiscated from them, a further 8 were stopped and checked out, and three people were arrested. A number of licensing checks were also made throughout the operation due to the large numbers of students celebrating the end of their exams. The feedback from members of the public who were spoken to has been positive and officers hope that the operation has helped to address the issues reported to the team.
PC Gulzar of the City Centre SNA said, "We will respond quickly and deal with any instance of anti-social behaviour pro-actively as this type of behaviour will not be tolerated. We need the co-operation of the community reporting issues to us so we can target resources where they are most needed."
If you are concerned about an issue in the city centre then please contact us on 0114 2523996 and we will do our best to address the problem.
