PROGRESS REPORT FOR SOUTH WEST SHEFFIELD SNT

29TH July 2010

  • The signage for Greenoak Park referring to off-road motorcycles, is to be collected by Councillor Hill who will arrange for the siting at key locations.
  • After consultation with a resident on Aldam Rd it is to be proposed that the Neighbourhood Watch scheme will be focused upon this area and specific local problems.
  • The team, and Sheffield Futures, are pleased to report that the King Ecgberts Youth club has been well received and attended by local youths.
  • During the period June to July the team have issued 6 x Parental Advisory Letters (PAL) bringing the unruly behaviour of some individuals to the attention of their parents.
  • Operation K-NEIGHBOUR is designed to ask each and every resident for their opinions regarding  the area in which they live and more importantly what the police can do for them. This has begun to be rolled out in the South West area and will eventually reach all the households.
  • The South West Team, in conjunction with partner agencies, will take part in a week of action within the Netheredge area. This, for example, will entail – the provision of communal skips, gardening projects and communal litter picking. Although not confirmed it is hoped this will take place during the week commencing 27th September 2010.
  • The snooker project at the Abbey Snooker Club continues and is well attended by local youths.
  • PCSO’S from the South West Team will be holding a “HANDS OFF” event, on Friday 6th August 2010,  at the Tesco store, Abbeydale Drive between 10am – 3pm. This will address vehicle security and will be run in partnership with motoring organisations. In addition to this the team, whilst out on patrol, continually look out for vulnerable vehicles which are displaying valuable property and thus bringing this to the owners/drivers attention through the Vulnerable Vehicle Scheme (VVS).
  • Members of the South West Team are in talks with Leyburn Road Mosque with a view to setting up a women’s focus group.
  • We have, and will continue to run, “BIKE SAFE” sessions at Millhouses Park promoting bicycle safety and use to children.
  • The Team are justifiably proud to inform you that Sgt Cross attended at The South West Assembly 2010/11 Community Plan Development Session 0n 8th July2010 and was openly praised for our efforts. Mary Bagley (Head of Sheffield Parks and Countryside) complimented the team’s efforts in regard to anti-social behaviour issues at Totley. She said that our approach (Youth Club/PACT/Licensing/Evening Patrols etc) should be used as a template for other areas of Sheffield to follow. Tammy Barass (Head of SW Community Assembly) commented that in the last few months, things in Totley have changed out of all recognition to the better.

Regards.

South West SNA Team.
