Third Bi-Weekly Progress Report for South West Sheffield SNT 28th of May 2010

On Wed 19th May the South West Sheffield PACT meeting  was held at Ecclesall Library. Most of the South West team attended, there was a good attendance of  around 20 members of the public – including several from Totley.

It was generally agreed that things have improved markedly over the last few weeks.  The anti-social behaviour issue with groups of young people  at Totley and Dore is now much better (although not ‘solved’).

The main anti-social issue at Totley at the moment (raised at the PACT) is 3 x nuisance motorcycles being used around Aldam Road and Greenoak Park.

Officers have an Operation planned for next week to deal with those.

The council are looking at placing signage in Greenoak park and the woods to the rear of Aldam Way with regard to the use of off road motorcycles, These would also act as the first warning to riders and would enable officers to seize these bikes immediately.

(Officers seized a motorbike on Aldam way on the 21st of May suspect stolen.)

Last week Sergeant Cross accompanied PC Wadsworth and Ms Hague (from Sheffield Council Licensing &  Safeguarding Children Dept) on licensing visits to premises in Dore and Totley. It is hoped and believe that these visits will reinforce our efforts to reduce the supply of alcohol to under-age people.

At 7pm on Friday 28th May the Youth Club at King Ecgbert’s School opened for business. PS Cross  and PCs Curl and Warwick attended. Although the Police officers couldn’t stop for long, They did see a large group of young people walking in. Whom they had spoken to earlier that evening (and on many previous evenings) and they are the same group that hangs around the Totley Co-Op, Greenoak Park and Abbeydale Sports Club.

Katie Terrington from Sheffield Futures (the organisers) has told us that if the young people would rather attend later than the current  7pm x 9pm hours, she will alter the times accordingly – up to as late as a 10.00 finish.

 Regards.
