Following an 18 month undercover Police operation 27 dealers in class ‘A’ drugs were sentenced to a total of 67 years in custody this week.

The dealers who mainly  lived  in the Broomhall and Sharrow area’s of Sheffield were charged following Operation Mach where more than 60 drug dealers were arrested for drug dealing. Following a two day hearing at Sheffield Crown Court Judge Goldsack sentenced the worst offenders to a total of 67 years in custody.

Sentencing the dealers, Judge Goldsack told them: “The police experience difficulties in bringing drug dealers to justice - those to whom drug dealers are supplying will rarely tell the police who the dealers are or give evidence against them. Partly out of fear of the consequences of doing so, and partly out of misplaced loyalty and not wishing to lose their supply.

Judge Goldsack added the operation would have been “very expensive, both in terms of money and human resources”.

Work will continue in the area to stop further drug dealers moving into the gap left by these individuals.

Following on from this weeks sentencing the local policing team will be continuing withh high profile patrols to provide public reassurance and deter further offences.
