In addition to tackling Anti-social behaviour and PACT priorities the following are some of the positive results from the last month, planned activities and other news.

1. Sheffield Community Constable of the Year -Congratulations to Pc Barry Smith and PC Ranbir Saini who have jointly won the community contable of the year award for Sheffield. This is just reward for the excellent service they have both provided over the past year on Lowedges, Batemoor and Jordonthorpe. They will collect their award at an awards night at the City Hall in February.

2.Restructure of Sheffield Police - I mentioned last month the restructure of the SNA'a in Sheffield to be co-terminus with the Community Assembly boundaries. We are still planning the detail and this should co ahead from 1st April. I would stress that as a service user you should see no difference in terms of the front line service you receive from South Yorkshire Police.

3.Vehicle Crime - I am please to report a continued reduction in vehicle crime over the past 12 months however there are a couple of recent trends which you should be aware of -

Landrover Defenders -

Over the past couple of months we have seen a trend of thefts of these vehicles across South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. The thieves have discovered a means of overriding the immobilisers fitted to the vehicles. The Police are working with Landrover to rectify the problem but in the meantime if you own a Defender please be vigilant and I would reccomend some form of additional security. Hot off the press - Last night three suspects from Sheffield were arrested in Derbyshire for theft of a Defender and are currently in custody.

Theft of Spare Wheels -

Over the past week or ten days we have seen a spate of spare wheels being stolen across Sheffield and a number in this area. These tend to be the wheels stored underneath a car which are easily removed. It may be worth putting the wheel in your boot as a temporary measure of fitting a padlock or similar to prevent the theft.

Dont leave property on display -

Only yesterday an iphone was stolen from a car on Batemoor Rd having been left on the dashboard. Would you leave £400 cash lying in your car?

4.Burglary - Continues to be a priority. The following crime prevention advice was sent round last month. Despite the constant messages we send out we still find a significant number of properties that are burgled have been left insecure with windows open. Dont be an opportunists victim......follow our advice

Home Security

You can reduce your chance of becoming a victim of house burglary by taking a few precautions:

Keep doors and windows locked whenever possible, and fit good quality locks to them

Secure garages, sheds and outbuildings as well as your home

Don’t leave valuables in view, store keys in a safe place away from doors and windows

Tell someone you trust if you are going on holiday or leaving your house empty

Consider buying an alarm, timer switches for lights andradios

Protect your valuables with a property marking solution like SmartWater

Protecting your home is quite easy and does not have to cost the earth. You can protect your items for free by registering your property onto the Immobilise website

Burglar Alarms are an effective deterrent and can provide you and your family with peace of mind. Government statistics show that 60% of burglaries on homes fitted with burglar alarms are unsuccessful so it really is worth investing in a home security system. Additional information on Home Security can be found on

If you own a laptop or iphone can I recommend you look at the following website www.preyproject.com. This download is free , works and is a significant deterrant and great tool for us to catch criminals.

4. Drugs Warrants - Please if you have information about drug dealing in your area either let us know directly or contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and will be investigated.
