Dear Resident,

Following the latest PACT drop in and other engagement activity over the past month we listened to your views and amended the PACT priorities. Remember if there are any issues in your area which you feel should be considered as a PACT priority then please reply to this e-mail me and let me know. You can have a say in how your community is policed. The next meeting is at Morrisons, Meadowhead on Thursday 27th October 2011 between 10am and 6pm. Please call in and you can speak to my staff about any policing issues.

In addition to tackling Anti-social behaviour and PACT priorities the following are some of the positive results from the last month and planned activities.

1.Operation Dark Nights - This is the generic name for policing operations connected to halloween and bonfire night. Throughout this period my staff will be undertaking additional evening patrols targeting antisocial behaviour hotspots, nuisance fires and firework nuisance. We will be working closely with colleagues from the fire service and streetforce to prevent arson by removing as much combustible material from the streets as we can. I would remind you all of the information I circulated regarding fireworks last month and which I have left on the newsletter this month.

In addition to enforcement Operations we are pleased to announce that partners in targeted youth support have agreed to Street based teams (SBT's) being deployed in this area once again. These multi agency teams will operate every Monday at Jordonthorpe Shops and every Friday at Herdings shops, Morland Rd from 6pm - 9pm. They started last week and will run until Friday 11th November. The SBT's are accompanied by the City council fun bus containing DJ equipment, playstation, Wii and Xbox. Please encourage young people to attend. As well as having some fun the SBT members are able to assist young people with confidential help and advice on a host of topics.

2.Integrated Services for older people pilot - Lowedges Batemoor and Jordonthorpe has been chosen as a pilot area for integrating local services. The basic principle being that public service providers can provide a better quality service by working together. This is in its early stages and I will keep you posted regarding any developments.

3.Burglary Operation in Lowedges in August - During August my staff ran a proactive Operation targeting offences of Burglary in the Lowedges area. You may have received a leaflet. through the door. One focus of this was crime prevention. A significant number of Burglaries are committed at insecure premises. As an example, in one four day period PCSO's on patrol found 72 insecure properties. Please dont make life easy for Burglars, lock your doors. Also at night dont leave keys in the locks. I've mentioned this before but we still get Burglaries committed where the offenders smash a window, reach in and open the door with the key left conveniently in the lock.

4.Speeding - We continue to receive complaints from local residents regarding speeding motorists. Over the past few weeks we have enforced speed limits on Queen Victoria Rd, Bradway Rd and Twentywell Lane as well as Myrtle Rd and Gleadless Rd. Only last week there was a serious accident on Gleadless Rd involving two cars speeding. Please slow down..............

2. Drugs Warrants - Please if you have information about drug dealing in your area either let us know directly or contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and will be investigated. We have executed warrants in the last month at Cawthrone Grove, Ormond Way, Leighton Rd x 2 and Haslam Crescent. We need your help to identify drug dealers in your community.

3.Fireworks - Can I remind everyone as we come up to the Halloween and bonfire period that fireworks are potentially dangerous. Each year we see people seriously injured as a result of fireworks accidents and I would encourage everyone to attend organised displays rather than buy their own. I would also like to remind you that it is an offence for a person under 18 to possess a firework in public. It is also an offence to discharge a firearm within 50 feet of a highway. Throughout the period we will be undertaking additional patrols and anyone committing these offences can expect an £80 fixed penalty.

4. More serious crime - Colleagues within CID have again had some good success this month.

A male arrested for Burglary of an 81 yr old victim on Lowedges has been charged and remanded in custody

A male arrested for Theft from Motor Vehicle on Smithywood Rd has been charged with three offencesand remanded in custody.

5. Crime figures for the past 12 months are as follows for this SNA area ( compared to the previous 12 month period)

All crime - reduction of 7.3% or 326 fewer victims compared to previous 12 month period

Burglary Dwelling - reduction of 10.9% or 56 fewer victims compared to previous 12 month period
