The achievements of members of the public, police staff and police officers were celebrated at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.

Former England and Sheffield Wednesday football player David Hirst hosted the event on Thursday 17 February 2011. Sheffield District Commander, Chief Superintendent Simon Torr, introduced the event that saw 23 awards presented by sponsors.

One of the police awards presented on the night, the ‘Diversity of the Year Award’ went to the Pakistan Advice Centre for promoting a greater understanding between different cultural groups in the Fir Vale and Page Hall communities. Gulnaz Hussain was presented with the award on behalf of the Pakistan Advice Centre.

Local Police Officer PC Gareth Webb was awarded the ‘Community Police Officer of the Year Award’ for his proactive and robust policing in Fir Vale and Page Hall that has contributed to significant reductions in crime and antisocial behaviour in the area. 

Chief Superintendent Simon Torr said: “The Sheffield policing awards are an opportunity for South Yorkshire Police to acknowledge some remarkable people, not only in our own organisation, but also our partners and the general public. This event quite rightly recognises and celebrates their outstanding achievements.

 The award ceremony was sponsored by, Sheffield Wednesday FC, Sheffield United FC, Sheffield City Council, Costco, Amberley Garage, Meadowhall, Telephonetics, Virgin Media, Serco, Crystal Peaks, Medacs Healthcare, G4S and Wetherspoons.
