On Sunday 14 June 2009 at around 2:00pm PC Paul Bower and PC Paul Jameson from Wombwell SNT responded to a call, reporting a theft of a mobility scooter from outside the Co op Supermarket, Barnsley Road, Darfield.
The officers conducted a search of the area and spotted a mobility scooter being ridden in a field. One man has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently on police bail.The scooter has been returned to its owner, although badly damaged.
PC Paul Bower from Wombwell Safer Neighbourhood Team stated, “Incidents such as this are very rare in Barnsley. Mobility scooters are high value items and we recommend that they should be secured or parked in view of the CCTV when left outside shops.”
