We did: 

A 'MoCam' (Mobile Camera mounted on a street lamp) has been utilised in the area. The camera acts as a deterrent to those involved in anti-social behaviour and criminal activity.

Both PCSO’s and PC’s have directed their patrols in to the area.

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team are currently gathering information through observations and reports from local residents.  This will be used to take action against those involved in criminality.

An SNT officer regularly attends meetings of the 'Friends of Arbourthorne Pond' group with other partner agencies.

Drug dealing in and around Errington Avenue flats

Drug dealing in and around Errington Avenue flats.

We did: 

Three ‘cannabis factories’ have been discovered in the Arbourthorne area, with the drugs and cultivation equipment being seized.  Cannabis factories are homes or properties which have been converted for the use of growing the drug. The value of the three combined factories is well in excess of £200,000.

The Manor and Arbourthorne SNT are currently working very closely with Sheffield Homes and Neighbourhood Wardens, to tackle the issues affecting residents. 

Both PCSOs and PCs have directed their patrols in to the area.  They have looked at being in the area during the times the anti-social behaviour has been reported.  These patrols have been in cars, on foot and on cycles. 

Police Community Support Officers are supporting the Console Kids Club run by the local TARA.  This near by youth centre provides positive activities for local youths and in doing so, acts as an alternative to committing anti-social behaviour or becoming involved in criminal activity.  Officers not only attend the club themselves, but direct young people they meet whilst out in the area to the centre.

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team are currently gathering information through observations and reports from local residents.  This will be used to take action against those involved in criminality.

Since May 1st 2010 there has been 4 reported incidents linked to this priority.

We did: 

The residents of the street have been offered the opportunity to participate in the Safe and Well Scheme.  This scheme provides equipment to make the participants properties more secure, and consequently make the resident feel more comfortable in their home.

Both PCSOs and PCs have directed their patrols in to the area.  They have looked at being in the area during the times the anti-social behaviour has been reported.  These patrols have been not only in cars, but also on foot and on cycles.

Truancy patrols have been conducted in the area looking for children who should be at school and are possibly engaging in anti-social behaviour.  These children are often located in the nearby playground and park area.

Since April 1st 2010 there have been six reported incidents linked to this priority.  Four have been suspicious vehicles or people, whilst two were for burglaries.

Ongoing problems with youths drug dealing and causing anti-social behaviour on Northern Avenue shops.

We did: 

Three ‘cannabis factories’ have been discovered in the Arbourthorne area, with the drugs and cultivation equipment being seized.  Cannabis factories are homes or properties which have been converted for the use of growing the drug. The value of the three factories combined is well in excess of £200,000.

A warrant was sought and executed at a property on Northern Avenue. Over 9,000 counterfeit cigarettes were seized, together with drugs with street value of £300 and £3000 cash (believed to be the proceeds of crime).

The Manor and Arbourthorne SNT are currently working very closely with Sheffield Homes and Neighbourhood Wardens, to tackle the issues affecting the users of the shopping complex.  Both PCSOs and PCs have directed their patrols in to the area.  They have looked at being in the area during the times the anti-social behaviour has been reported.  These patrols have not only been in cars, but also on foot and on cycles.

A survey of the local businesses has been completed.  This has highlighted the possibility of starting a shop watch scheme in the area.

The mobile Police Station has been used on the precinct to give residents and shop owners the opportunity to come and speak to the Police and discuss issues affecting their quality of life.

A 'MoCam' (Mobile Camera that can be mounted on a street lamp) has been utilised in the shopping area.  This assists the police and partner agencies monitoring the area for signs of anti-social behaviour and any criminal offence that may have been committed.  The footage from the camera has been used 6 times in active investigations.  The camera also acts as a deterrent to those involved in anti-social behaviour and criminal activity.

Since May 1st 2010 there has been 1 reported incident linked to this priority.

Kenninghall View

  • Operation Krooklock. This involved plain clothed officers utilising covert tactics to apprehend those involved in the theft of and from motor vehicles.
  • Operation Bloodhound. This involved uniformed and plain clothes officers to reduce the incidence of crime and in particular burglaries in the area.
  • Operation Kare. Officers dispersed groups of youths engaged in anti-social behaviour in the area.
  • Operation Buspass. High visibility patrols of the public transport network and routes to address incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour and to provide public reassurance.

We did:

Uniformed officers have visited local residents at their home addresses and in the street to obtain their views on crime in the local area and how they best feel we can address their concerns.

Worked with partnership agencies to secure empty properties awaiting demolition thereby reducing instances of criminal damage, arson and anti-social behaviour.

Other activities the Manor & Arbourthorne team have been involved with this month;

Officers have stopped and spoken to or searched over 200 people in the area.

Identified over 400 vulnerable vehicles in the area and sent letters to the owners informing them how they can take action to reduce car crime.

Identified and reported 10 vehicles without a valid Vehicle Excise Licence (tax disc).

Attended seven community meetings.

Operation Blitz - Uniformed officers have visited local residents at their home addresses and engaged with them in the street to obtain their views on crime in the local area and how they best feel we can address their concerns.

Operation K-Boozer - Targeting alcohol related anti-social behaviour in the area. This has been combined with an alcohol related test purchase operation.

One stolen vehicle recovered.

Attended 5 Multi-Agency Meetings.

Visited 114 members of public, to discuss issues affecting their lives.

Operation K Krook-Lock 5 resulted in117 vulnerable vehicles being identified, 12 stop searches,3 arrests, 1 vehicle 2 laptops a TV and a Playstation  recovered which had been stolen.

Spring Lane Tram Stop & Premier Store, City Road

Vandalism to trams, cars and street furniture by youths congregating around Spring Lane Tram Stop and around Premier Store, City Road.

  • Operation K-Bruise targetting anti-social behaviour in the area; resulting in 11 arrests, 160 stop-searches, 1 ticket for public order.

Edenhall Road

You said: 

Problems with youths causing nuisance and damage as well as alcohol related anti-social behaviour on Edenhall Road.

We did: 
  • We have increased patrols on the road and surrounding streets and stopped/checked people hanging about the area. This has led to a reduction in reported incidents but activity will continue with further measures planned to resolve the problems on a long term basis.
  • CCTV has been installed at the top of the gennel (next to the Arbourthorne Centre) and compliments the camera currently at the City Road end of Wulfic Road.

We did: 

We have targeted patrols by the neighbourhood patrol groups as well as SNT staff to discourage persons congregating in the area. Damage offences have been reduced. PCSOs are encouraging local youths to participate in more constructive activities such as those organised by Activity Sheffield.

Drug misuse

We asked: 

what issues concerned you most in your area

You said: 

Groups and individuals frequenting Norfolk Heritage Park and the banks of Jervis Lum taking drugs and causing damage.

We did: 
  • Increased high visibility patrols in the area.
  • Met with partner agencies at the Arbourthorne Neighbourhood Action Group.
  • Executed search warrants in the area targeting those believed responsible for drugs misuse and have recently recovered a cannabis factory and a small quantity of class A drugs.

We have worked with our partner agencies to:

  • Clean up dangerous needle waste in the area.
  • Cut back vegetation and improve street lighting to make the area less attractive to drugs users.
  • Increased intervention work with users in the area.

We will continue to patrol the area for the next month using stop and search powers where appropriate and monitor the area for signs of continued use by drug users.
