On Monday 28th July members of Rotherham North Safer Neighbourhood team, Rotherham North Area Assembly, RUFC Community Sports Trust and Rotherham West elected members escorted a group of young people from Thornhill Young People’s Centre on a visit to the Houses of Parliament where they were given a conducted tour of both the House of Commons and House of Lords.

The young people have set up Masbrough Youth Forum to address local issues and develop Community Leadership skills.   The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the political process.   The project is funded by the Rotherham North Area Assembly Devolved budget

The group were met by their local MP Denis McShane who gave a guided tour of the House of Commons and arranged a meeting room in which the group were invited to ask questions on a range of subjects of both the MP and local councillors, discussing their dreams and aspirations

The Group also met Lord Ahmed of Rotherham who gave a tour of the House of Lords, inviting us onto the “Lords Terrace” for refreshments.

A visit to the London Central Mosque was arranged for the afternoon, where the party had a tour of the mosque facilities followed by a meal in the mosque restaurant.
